The iconic 90 Mile Beach fishing contest expected to be another success

by Editor

The iconic 90 Mile Beach surfcasting fishing contest starts 28th February running until 3 March. Check out the details at www.snapperbonanza.co.nz

The inaugural Captain Morgan Snapper Bonanza was created last year with the support of Captain Morgan Rum, Far North District Council & Community Board and business owners of Kaitaia. The contest was organised to ensure Kaitaia continued to host what has become one of the most well recognised fishing contests in nthe southern hemisphere. The goal was to recreate an exceptional surfcasting event for the many competitors who undertake an annual pilgrimage to the Far North of New Zealand to take part in a surfcasting extravaganza on the mighty 90 Mile Beach.

The first one was an outstanding success. From the many quality prizes to the licensed bar on site, and the 600 plus entrants whom all agreed it was great. Comments like, “the best one yet”, “we will be back” and “don’t change anything, it’s awesome”, were well received.

Those that were at the 2011 competition would have seen the early bird prize for 2012, a predator torpedo set complete with electric winch, worth $3600.

The organisers Dave Collard, John Stewart & Brian Archibald are working hard yto ensure 2012 is even better. There’s over $200,000 worth of prizes to be won – including a lucky draw for a Triton 4 x 4 Double Cab Ute worth $50,000.
